  7. Wedding Tips from a Florist

    Soft Pink Bouquet

Summertime. The sun is out; everyone has donned short sleeves and light colors. It is also the time of year that you have planned to have your wedding. Are you nervous? Is your caterer not calling you back? Here, we have listed a couple of issues to keep in mind when you are planning your big day.

Your ideal wedding may be in a cute little chapel or in the back yard at your grandparents’ home. You imagine light fluffy clouds against a deep azure sky. Maybe, if you are lucky, there will be an abundance of butterflies to grace your beautiful ceremony.

Unfortunately, summer storms can come up quick and unexpectedly.

As a general rule, if you plan on having your ceremony or your reception outside, have an indoor back- up facility.

We all know, when you are choosing a date for your wedding, it holds significance. However, as important as that day might be, you must stay aware of any holidays that fall around or on that very day. Depending on the holiday, this can cause the price of flower arrangements to jump higher than you were expecting.

When you are putting a budget together for your wedding, be sure to set enough aside so you are able to have the arrangement about which you have always dreamed. Sitting down with a florist before you lock in your budget would be extremely helpful in planning for your wedding.

Once again, keep these three things in mind when beginning your wedding planning process: plan for adverse weather conditions, budget properly for your floral needs, and be sure to pick a date that will not drive your cost too much.

  8. Cyclamen, Nandina, and Poinsettias… Oh My, It’s Christmas Time

A couple of months ago, we told you about autumn arrangements. Where fall’s designs are driven by varieties of color, winter uses stark and powerful colors. Typically, we use reds, greens, white, deep blues, and gold.

The floral choice aims to create a warmth and security reminiscent of Linus’s blanket in the age-old Peanuts cartoon. Basically, if you see a holiday arrangement and images of logs burning in a fireplace and your hands around a mug of hot chocolate, we’re on the right path.

For basic arrangements, we start with greenery like flat cedar, pine, holly, and nandina. To bring in well-blended reds, we like to use hypercium berries.

Separately, hypercium berries can be placed on foliage to create festive wedding boutonnieres.

To give the arrangements a snowy feel, we use white ginestra. The ginestra can be as dense or used as sparingly as you feel fit for your custom bouquet.

If you are looking for something simple, poinsettias and amaryllis plants are an easily recognized wintertime decoration. The pots can be covered with gold or silver wrapping foil to help them stand out and to bring a brightness to the room.

Wondering what would make a nice gift to give someone? Christmas cactuses are cute, portable, and perfect for any plant-loving friend or family member. But then again, why not get one for yourself?

  9. 3 Tips for Corporate Holiday Parties

Yes, Halloween has come and gone. Do you know what that means? Turkeys, hams, family, sweaters, and crackling fireplaces.

Oh, and don’t forget the party your boss asked you to plan.

This is not meant to add stress to your plate; so before you reach for the spiked eggnog we have a couple of pointers and tips to help you plan.

    Plan Early

This is exactly why we are bringing this to your attention now. Our order list tends to grow exponentially around the holiday season (we can’t figure out why) and you have a lot to get done in a short amount time.

We cannot emphasize this enough. As soon as you have a venue, give us a call or drop by the store and we’ll get started.

    Budget, Budget, Budget!

Your company probably gave you a budget for the whole event. Keep in mind the food, the venue, the DJ, and the decorations.

This is where we come in. Set a budget for decorative arrangements and stick to it. You do not want to dip into funds for the food (what are parties for, right?) or drinks. So, make a budget and do not deviate from it.

    Mental Walk-Through

Now that you have your venue and your budget, sit back, close your eyes, and imagine all the neat little places for floral arrangements. These are supposed to liven up the room and add a freshness that only flowers can accomplish.

Typically, our friends order traditional holiday colored arrangements. These can include red flowers, white flowers, cedar and pine frames, and if you’re adventurous conveniently placed mistletoe. Do a mental walk-through of your venue and spice it up.

Now you can grab that eggnog and have a swig for us!
